SPSO Training Unit

The SPSO training unit was set up in 2009 in response to a growing number of requests for training for both frontline staff and staff undertaking investigations of complaints.

The current programme is tailored mostly for local authority staff but it has been delivered to a broad range of public sector organisations. We have also developed programmes and materials that are specific to individual sectors and organisations. For instance In 2010 – 2011 we created a unique programme for the NHS which involved training NHS staff to deliver the training, allowing a significantly larger number of NHS staff to be trained in a shorter period of time. We have also delivered training to housing associations, based around their individual requirements and staff needs.

The Training Unit is currently working closely with the Complaints Standards Authority to develop training materials to sit alongside the Model Complaints Handling Procedures for each sector.
